Prologue - For anyone who hasn't heard, congratulations to
Watto & Adriana who had a baby girl, Julia on Friday night. Early
indications are that the baby looks very much like Adriana. Few... The majority
of the team gathered at Stingers on Saturday evening for beers & cigars
to celebrate the birth of Julia. Beers turned into rums & then into jugs of
rum. The Wight brothers were phoned around midnight & the sledging
began 12 hours before the match was due to start.
Sunday - Most of us arrived around 10:59 for 11
start, sunglasses firmly fixed to faces. Thankfully Watto won the toss & the
Greenies had a bat. Paul earned a COTD nomination when he shouldered arms in the
2nd over. Josh & Watto then consolidated for a fine partnership.
Josh made a very classy 36, which on the Adelaide Oval would probably have
been worth 70 odd. After his dismissal, Watto took over & added another
50 odd with Jacko who scored 12 but more importantly occupied the crease.
Watto was finally dismissed for a gutsy 86, probably about 130 on the
Adelaide oval. Smith 16. Ledge, Tex & myself combined for a
total of 2 runs & we were lucky to score those. We managed to bat out
our 48 overs for 198 runs. A decent total given the horrible state of the
outfield. I have never ever seen a cricket ball lost in the outfield
before.
It was stinking hot & humid & we were particularly
flat in the field dropping numerous catches. Usually byrite would make us
pay for this but there batting was very weak & they seemed even less
interested in batting than we were in fielding. Thankfully our bowling was
tremendous. Rupert was particularly fast & hostile & Sammy's first spell
was tight. Josh & Watto bowled very tightly & we took wickets
at regular intervals. There was some late wobbles when Sammy was hit
out of the ground twice, but Dogga Dean insured the win with some excellent
bowling & 2 wickets to finish the game. Greenies winning by 25 runs &
taking it to 3 matches on the trot against Byrite.
MOM - Watto - A baby, 86 runs & 3-30. A pretty good
weekend!!!
COTD - Tex - Possibly the worst game of cricket I have ever
seen. Played a horrible shot - bowled for a duck & dropped a
sitter. Attitude in general
was c$%ty.
Play of the Day - Jacko - Classy pull shot for 4 off
Tulloch. Probably the only normal cricket shot that went for 4 all
day.
