Greenies One went down to Byrite yesterday in a tight match that could have gone either way. The match was reduced to 18 overs per side because the prior match went overtime. We were sent in to bat & scored 100 off our 18 overs. Steve & Ian could do little in the first 6 overs against fast bowling directed at their throats & higher. They slowly accelerated & found some boundaries. When Steve was caught behind in the 8th over, we sent Ledge in to pinch hit. He did well with a quick fire 21 while Ian made another well compiled 33. We couldn't accelerate as we hoped in the final 6 overs. I played an awful swipe & was bowled 3rd ball when I should have been looking for a single to get a well set Ian on strike. It was an awful example to set & something which I have be telling everyone not to do.
10 or 20 more would have been nice but 100 was defendable. Paramount had beaten Police in the prior game defending only 101. We started brilliantly with a maiden over from Ledge & then a wicket to Josh in the second over. Ledge clean bowled Ainsley Hall in the 3rd over & then Josh was on a hatrick in the 4th over sending Keneil & Jaylon back to sheds. From that point we let them off the hook. Michael Wight was dropped twice to sharp catches & was also caught off a no ball. The next ball was a free hit which he swiped for 4 & from that point Byrite were back in control. We kept fighting to the end but fell 2 wickets short. Wight finished with 45 from 40 balls & you just can't give someone like that 3 chances in an 18 over game & defending 100. I know we lost but we played okay yesterday & the result could so easily have gone our way if we had taken Wight.
MOM - Ledge - 21 & 2-15 from 3 overs.
POD - Josh - 2 wickets in 2 balls.
COTD - Steve - Dropped M Wight twice.
Thanks to Watto for filling in at the last hour & thanks to Troskie for turning up when we thought we needed a last minute replacement. A great club man he is & hopefully the scolding from the wife wasn't to bad mate... You can blame me.
