Greenies 1 enjoyed there first win for the season in a
tight struggle against Esso last Sunday. The line up was strengthened with the
last minute inclusions of Josh & Frankie. Losing the toss & being sent
into bat, Ledge couldn't continue where he left off from last week, caught
behind in the 2nd over. Josh came out to bat with Rotsey & immediately
looked comfortable playing some confident drives & some stylish flicks
behind square. Rotsey, on the other hand was struggling, eventually getting off
the mark in the 7th over with a nick through the slips. He managed a couple more
nicks through slip before eventually departing around the 10th over. This bought
Frankie to the crease who started with a couple of smashing back foot drives to
the boundary. Josh & Frankie settled into a great rhythm for the next 15
overs, with Josh turning over ones & Frankie dispatching sixes to all parts
of the ground. His biggest one off Sailsman was hit over the sightscreen &
disappeared into the marshes on the other side of Smith Rd. It was great to
watch & the run rate ticked over at a very ungreenie like pace.
Josh eventually departed for a well made 51 & Frankie for a
swashbuckling 68. Jonty & Tommy then combined to get the score to 4-194 from
40 overs. Jonty 20 n.o, Tommy 23 n.o. Our effort in the field was not nearly on
par with the batting. Josh picked up a wicket, but was slightly off rhythm.
Ledge bowled a couple of good overs before a no-ball was dispatched for 4 by
Ifill. The ensuing free hit was smashed straight down the ground for 6. Ledge
then decided it must have been the umpires fault for conceding 11 runs off 1
ball & promptly announced that he would no longer bowl from Mr Moore's end.
Hector in his first match of the season bowled with some pace but the radar was
slightly off & he finished his 8 overs with 1-46. Fortunately Jonty was on
fire. Coming on first change after Josh with the wind he bowled a fantastic line
& length & after 2 overs he had clean bowled Ifil & his buddy &
still not conceded a run. Next over, a leg side delivery drew the batsman out of
there crease long enough for Rotsey to effect another leg side stumping. 2 in 2
weeks & to prove it wasn't a fluke, they did it again in Jontys last over. 3
in 2 weeks! Frankie chipped in with 4 overs 1-17.
6 overs to go with Josh & Tommy to bowl out. Esso require about
5 an over. Getting dark. Batsman struggle to score of Josh, too much pace. Run
rate required increasing.. 1 over to go, 17 runs required, Tommy to bowl,
Higgins on strike.
Ball 1, a floated delivery in the slot is deposited into cow corner
for a 1 bounce 4. 13 off 5! Heart rates rise. Tommy proceeds to bowl another 5
pies but fortunately the batsman miss time & Greenies scrape home for a 6
run victory. Josh finished 1-32 off 8, Tommy 1-32 off
7.
MOM - Jonty 5-27 from 8 overs, 20 n.o, is getting good practice
at Heineken sculling.
COTD - If his 11 run
ball & outburst at the umps wasn't enough, Ledge cemented his win by
claiming post match that he didn't bowl a no ball. How or why he was looking at
his front foot at the time of delivery wasn't accepted well by the Kangaroo
court. Add to this his 3rd ball duck to cap off a very strong COTD
performance!
POTD - either of Rotseys 2 leg side stumpings narrowly defeated any
one of Frankie's 4 sixes & 2 back foot drives for 4.
Spectators of the day - Smiths * 2, Pang & Jeffers
got great value for there match fees.
Passion
award - Hector's "Lightening Bolt" celebration after his LBW dismissal was
memorable. He has clearly been
practicing!
