Scorecard
Greenies beat a nine man Esso to take 3rd in the 20/20 comp at Smith
Rd yesterday. Winning the toss, we again chose to bowl & were helped by Esso
turning up late & only having 18 overs to bat. Josh was excellent again
conceding only 8 runs off 4 overs, which amazingly included 3 no balls, a wide
& a wicket. He was also kind enough to give Ifil & Co plenty of batting
tips. Hector in his first match back was brilliant, bowling 4 overs for 8 runs
& a wicket. But the pick of the bowlers was Hoggy who baffled the batsman
with 3 wickets for 14 runs in 3 overs. Esso finished with 82 runs, 22 of which
came of 2 Neveling overs & 10 from a Ledge over.
Promoted to open Hoggy got us off to a flyer with 22 from 17 balls while Rotsey provided good support with 8. Craig & I got us most of the way home before the big guy was caught for 10. Nevels complemented his 0-22 from 2 with a 2nd ball duck. This was not your average duck though. After being trapped plumb in front & given out he started down the track for a quick single. Little to his knowledge the ball had cannoned off his pads straight to the fieldsman who promptly run him out as well. Out twice for 0! I was 31 n.o. when we passed the total with about 4 or 5 overs left. We were more organised & more committed than Esso & it showed with a comprehensive 6 wicket victory. A solid & deserved win after some close losses over the past few weeks.
MOM - Hoggy 3-14 & 21 - a
solid day
COTD - Nevels for above mentioned
Heroics.
POTD - Hector for sending the middle
stump of an Esso batman flying.
With minimal spectators & a disturbing number of non-drinkers, we had enough beer to get through the entire final between Schools & Esso. Despite a blistering start from Sealy, Roach & Cato Schools only managed to score 81. Byrite lost their first three wickets for just 1 run but Keneil & Conroy steadied them & they got home for a tight victory. Byrite undefeated in the comp.
