Results of match played Sunday 14 March - Greenies v
Panthers
Greenies lost by 29 runs
The line
up took a blow at training on the previous Thursday when Karen dislocated her
pinky. There goes my number two bowler and number 3 batter. After
running up a sizable debt with LIME we managed to put a team together
with Drew and Yi Chen who stepped up and filled the two
spots.
I lost the toss - but it didn’t really matter as we
planned to field first this outing.
We started off fairly tidily
picking up a wicket in the first over of the match with a great catch by Yi
Chen. It was a clear bumped ball but the umpire’s finger went up
- you take those decisions when they come along. A dropped catch by me in
the fourth over proved costly. It was just before the
first drinks break that Wiki cart wheeled Molly's middle stump.
The third wicket fell the very next over when Larissa performed a first
class stumping. I think she has really been watching Rotsey too
much.
Overs 11 to 20 were expensive with a lot of wides and no
balls bowled. It was a task to set an effective field and I was willing to
try anything. I called on Drew to have a bowl. In her
second over she bowled Carmen who was starting to settle in. It
wasn't the prettiest of balls I think it hit the stumps on the third bounce
- effective nonetheless. The last wicket was a great one handed
catch by Wiki to dismiss Wyvonne. The last 5 overs we contained them
to 21 runs and taking 1 wicket.
With a run chase of 189
we started off strongly until Wiki went for one and had her leg stump cart
wheeled out of the ground. Cat stepped up next and her and I batted
for 16 overs for an impressive partnership of 115 runs. Cat and I
were quick between the wickets and I was belting them all around the
park. Panthers were forever changing their field but it didn't
matter I was hitting wherever there was a gap. Panthers
were getting rattled as Cat and I didn't give them many chances and we were
cruising along although we really needed to put our foot down and push
the run rate along a bit faster. Cat was pushing the singles over and
played an admirable innings and set me up for my 85. In the end Cat ran
herself out and in came Drew - we were still in it at this stage requiring
66 off the last 6 overs - a gettable target. Drew got her
marching orders with an lbw decision for 1 run. Larissa was next in
and with 40 runs needed off 3 overs there was a lot of batting still to be
done. On comes Desrene to bowl for the Panthers who had other
ideas - Larissa bowled for 3 runs. Shelliann making
her debut for the Greenies comes to the crease and plays some nice
shots to keep the strike rolling over. The last over of the match,
Desrene is back on - I have to go for it - we need something
like 37 runs off the last over - I was figuring on 6 sixes
and but it was not to be - Desrene clean bowls me with 3 balls to
go. The two Shelly's are at the crease and Coxy goes first ball
- bowled. Desrene is on a hat trick. CA walks to the
crease with 2 balls left in the innings and finishes not out for
0.
Greenies fall short by 29 runs. If extras
didn't count Greenies won we scored 118 off the bat and Panthers scored 105 off
the bat.
There were plenty of Greenies supporters there to cheer us
on and it was great the Ones got to watch the end our game and see that we do
know a bit about cricket.
There were plenty of fines to hand
out for the day - 84 extras, 5 dropped catches and only
Cat and I scoring more than 5. A very distasteful fine bottle made by
Karen was shared with Ones as Hoggy clean forgot theirs.
Until next
game.
