The Greenies started the Twenty20 competition well with a comprehensive win over an understrength Paramount side.

Paramount won the toss and elected to bat on a clear day at West Bay but were soon bogged down by a slow outfield and some excellent bowling. The opening combination of A Blackwood and D McInnis withstood the pressure against the new ball but could never accelerate against an accurate Greenies attack backed up by an outstanding fielding display. Only V “Mango” Campbell managed to break the shackles lofting a straight six to limp to a score of 94 for 6 off the allotted 20 overs. Best bowling for Greenies came from the debutants C Reid and W Timothy who both squeezed the life out of Paramount, bowling 3 overs each for just 11 runs. Play of the day came from a super running catch in the deep by J Brown off the bowling of S Watson.

Small targets can sometimes be tricky to chase, particularly on a worn pitch, but the Greenies openers looked assured posting 40 for the first wicket when T Stephens was caught in the deep top scoring with 24. S Cameron and S Watson continued untroubled for another 30 runs until both threw their wickets away in the outer, leaving J Brown and P Monico to mop up the remaining runs comfortably with a few overs to spare.

Play of the day – Josh with a well judged running catch.
MVP –  Colin by a whiska over Wrendon for a fine bowling display
COTD – Ledge – Welcome back!

PS: Not sure who our media liason officer is, but hopefully the top spiel can be forwarded to Compass/Net News for publication. With Dickie being away I don’t have the stats to attach.

Thanks to Beefy and Simon for scoring and to Troskie for playing 12th man!

Fine bottle of bundy and Vegemite was said to be “not bad” by Ledge (pick the cane toad) and “enjoyed” by the “Docta “, who, shortly after, in a moment of verbal clarity confessed to being fucked up last season after Ledge’s nasty creation. All in all, a great start to the season, looking forward to tougher competition this weekend. Very pleasing to see the new boys all contribute well.
