Scorecard

Greenies 1 made it 3 wins from 3 with a 4 wicket victory against an under strength Police at Smith Rd yesterday. Losing my 3rd straight toss, Police chose to bat in perfect batting conditions. They would have been very confident after scoring 298 the previous Sunday against Byrite & a potentially difficult game was on the cards. However Josh & Ledge made sure it wasn't going to be anything like last week with brilliant opening spell of accurate pace & swing. Josh made the first breakthrough in the 3rd over with a perfectly pitched slower ball, which Bryan, last weeks centurion completely missed. Ledge who showed great skill & control with the new ball also clean bowled the other opener with a perfectly pitched out swinger. Nevels had Police in disarray in the 5th over when their #3 attempted a suicidal single to get off the strike. A full length ball was defended down the pitch & bounced over Josh's head, Nevels swooped in from mid off, a metre from the stumps & in one movement collected the ball & through the stumps down. Shortly after Josh removed the dangerous Cumberbatch caught behind, the biggest wicket of the innings & Carey deceived Morris with a cunning full toss, which was guided to cover via a leading edge.

At drinks they were 5-60 & in trouble. The X factor of course was Pearson who was late to the game & came in at the fall of the 6th wicket. However, he was running out of partners & also had a broken finger on his right hand. He was caught for 8 attempting to slog Faisal out of the ground. Faisal & Josh cleaned up the tail, all out for 96 in 35.1 overs. A sterling effort.

W
e had 30 mins of batting before the lunch break & the run chase started solidly with Nevs & Rotsey putting on 24 for the first wicket before Rotsey was caught & bowled in the over before lunch. Craig having been denied a lunch watchman had to play out an over before getting stuck into the baked chicken & Wahoo. After lunch, they confidently moved the score on to 39 when an awful mix sent Nevels packing. Steve & I ensured the run chase wouldn't be without a little wobble, both trapped LBW leaving us 4-50. However Craig & Josh batted extremely well completely shutting out any Police fight back. They started slowly, pushing singles before opening up & playing some exquisite straight drives. With less than 10 to get, Craig hit there number 1 pie chucker straight to point & with 2 to win, Hoggy somehow nicked behind giving the pie chucker a 2nd wicket. Ledge hit the winnings run for what should have been a 6 wicket win but ended up being won by 4 wickets with in 31.5 overs.

MOTM - Josh 3-19 from 10, his best bowling performance of the year & 30* was outstanding.
POTD - Nevels Jonty Rhodes-like run out.
COTD - Craig - Dropped an absolute sitter off the number 11 batsman, which caused the innings to last an extra 2 overs, which seemed like an eternity when standing out in the blazing sun. He confirmed his award by running out Nevels who hit it to mid off, called yes, was running to the danger end but the big fella refused to run.
GOTD - Craig again for wanting to send a lunch watchman in!

The fine session, which started about 2 hours earlier than normal was a gong show, one of the best we have had on a Sunday. The Ladies who narrowly lost to Esso Panthers arrived to do there fine session after ours. There must have been 30 plus people in attendance. 2 more cases were sent for, making it another 8 case Sunday & Steve whipped up some jerk chicken. The party moved on to Stingers where the good times rolled on. No doubt some dusty heads on Monday morning.

Next game is against Paramount in 2 weeks. We already have 3 players out so no one else is allowed to pull out!
