Ones went down in another frustrating loss to Police at Smith Rd yesterday. Losing the toss & fielding first we did a good job to restrict them to 104. Highlights were Faisal's 4 overs for 9 runs including a maiden & Josh's 4 overs for 12 runs & 2 wickets including the prized scalp of Pearson. The intensity was excellent but with 12 wides, a dropped catch & some fielding errors there is room for improvement. We could easily have kept them to sub 90 but 3 late sixes hurt us. Someone said that 3 of our overs went for 42 runs & just goes to show that you can't relax for even one ball in this format.

Our chase started dreadfully as we slipped to 14-6 & 32-7. 2 good balls removed Steve & I, Craig was run out while Rotsey & Sellars got very woody lbws. Only Hogg & Ledge played poor shots. From there Josh & Shaun staged a remarkable comeback putting on 47 & getting us to within 29 runs needed from 3 overs. They batted sensibly knocking the ball around & running like whippets - a good lesson for the rest of us. But the early wickets cost us & it was a little too much, eventually falling 10 runs short. Shaun scored 17 from 20,  Josh was 46no from 52, played out of his skin & was a shattered man at the end.

If Byrite beat Police on Sunday, we should still qualify for the semi against Schools due to our solid run rate of 5.84. From my rough calculations if Police lose, they would have to score 150 runs to better our run rate. Josh & Nevels partnership was invaluable in the sense that it boosted our run rate & may help us to qualify for the semi. So the effort may not have been in vain.

MOM - Josh - 46* & 2-12 from 4 overs.
POTD - Nevels took a nice outfield catch that went high & swirled in the breeze.
COTD - Craig - running as fast as possible & trying to avoid his run out, he slid his bat & then smashed into the bowlers ribs helmet first who was trying to take the bails off. Would have hospitalised a skinnier man - lucky it was Morris. POTD in my opinion.
