Police
comfortably put a halt to our one win streak at a barren and Africa hot JPO this Sunday gone. Stats below tell the
tale of the tape, lost the toss and fielded under a merciless clear and still
sky. They got off to a brisk and arsey start, then we slowly reeled them in with
excellent bowling from the pacemen and very spirited fielding all round. Josh
was the pick of the bowlers bowling 10 straight, 7 pace then 3 spin taking 2 for
30. Rups bowled Pearson Best and Hector made a great comeback bowling 10
overs picking up 3 -45. Then after doing so well to reel them in and most of
their batsman back in the pavilion the Passion was victim to 5 dropped catches
in the outfield and various other sloppy misfields which probably amounted to
another 50 runs on the board as they ran away in the last 15 overs to compile
240. Tommy took a blinder of a catch – running back overhead and diving full
stretch to take in one hand (pure passion) and Ledge was outstanding in cutting
off anything headed his way. Lots of good chirp
in the field. Chris Smith leaving his eye on a skier a little too long ended up
with a $700 fine from Chrissie Tomlinson and 3 stitches.
Chasing the runs, it is fairly obvious to see when 5 of the top 8
score 13 runs combined you are probably going to be in trouble, Paul certainly
had a very dubious run out from the home team umpire. Tommy cramped up, Smith
was at the hospital and Joe had gone back to rugby (his first commitment
for the day) so we were in a spot of bother. Still we laid down rather
meekly (maybe a little too keen to get to the greenies on ice, not realising how
completely disgusting Robbo’s Thai cocktail with pordi poo would be). Josh made
a rusty but composed 48, my 36 equally lacked any touch, only Tom looked in
control with his second dig scoring 36 off 32 all too late. Hector made a fine 0
in his 20 partnership with Tom, for which he was fined, and Joe made his best
duck of the season to date after being timed out, just in time for the fine
bottle!
