Scorecard
Greenies
blew a golden opportunity to defeat Prison at Smith Rd yesterday. Winning
the toss and batting on a rock hard surface in perfect conditions, Rotsey
and Ledge started perfectly with a 58 run stand. Rotsey smashing a couple
through covers and Ledge hooking Troy David onto the road. The Doc brothers
came into the attack and we looked set to dominate but then disaster struck.
Rotsey in top nick belted a long hop straight to mid on, Frankie
belted a slow loopy full toss straight to Shaeed at cover and then I
somehow managed to chip a slow pie straight back to the bowler. In between these
3 terrible shots, Ledge was given out LBW in controversial circumstances when he
swiveled to pull, missed and was hit in the ribs. From a controlling 0-58 we
fell to 4-67 and our chance had gone. Craig and Jonty did an excellent job
to rebuild the innings with a 65 run partnership. The problem being that Bazil
and Shaeed came on to bowl and were very difficult to get away. Jonty
eventually fell to a freakish catch on the boundary. The fieldsman horribly
misjudged the catch by running to far forward but as the ball passed by him
he stuck out a hand and somehow the ball stuck. Craig was bowled
trying to lift the run rate for 38. The idea was right but the execution off.
Hoggy played a tremendous little knock at the end, scampering singles and
hitting 3 boundaries to lift us to 183 from 50 overs. It was a day when we
needed to score 250 plus. The conditions were perfect and we had the men to do
it. Unfortunately, 4 very poor overs cost us and from there Prison
essentially shut us out of the game.
The
bowling started well with Hector bowling Troy David for a duck in the first
over. Frankie got rid of Charlie Greaves and then Hector got an edge from the
doc and Prison were 3 down. That bought Gordon and Shaeed to the crease
and we needed to strike quickly to have any chance in the match. Unfortunately
Gordon was dropped at short cover and Shaeed survived a shaky start when he
edged Hector through slips on 3 occasions. You just can't give chances to
quality batsman like these fellas and they made us pay with a breezy
partnership of 76. We eventually got Shaeed who was brilliantly caught by Dickie
at deep mid off, running in and taking a low catch. Unfortunately
Gordon continued on his merry way, looking exceptionally classy
and finishes on 76 n.o from 73 balls. After the drop catch, he
didn't give us a whiff of a chance. Prison knocked off the runs in
only 32 overs, which really highlighted how poor our effort with the bat
was.
MOTM - Hector bowled his best spell of the season. Should have dismissed Gordon and
could easily have got Shaeed too. Finished with 2-25 from 8. Everyone else
went for 6 an over or more.
POTD
- Dickie's catch gave us hope before Gordon closed out the match.
COTD
- Craig. Dropped Gordon.
We now have to rely on Prison
dropping 3 of there next 4 games. Shaeed is off island for a couple of these
games so you never know. Meanwhile, we need to win our next 4. We start with
Schools in 2 weeks
time.
